Kenyan M-Kopa Solar Power Raises $12.5m From LGT Venture

M-Kopa Solar closes 4th funding round with debt, equity deal led by LGT Venture Philanthropy, Nairobi-based supplier of residential solar systems in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, says in e-mailed statement.

* Funding includes commitment from Blue Haven Initiative, “reinvestments” from Lundin Foundation, Treehouse Investments;
* M-Kopa, which has installed 150,000 units in past 2.5 yrs, plans to use funding to expand product range, operating bases in East Africa and enter new mkts;
