Heineken May Sell S. Africa Strongbow Stake in Distell Deal
Heineken may sell its stake in Strongbow cider in South Africa to avert competition concerns in its bid to buy local spirits maker Distell, Business Day reports citing a note to shareholders by the Dutch brewer.
- “The proposed divestment of the Strongbow licence in SA and Namibia is something we wouldn’t enter into lightly, and is driven by a desire to be proactive as we work with the regulators during the approval process,” the Johannesburg-based newspaper reports citing Heineken
- Proposal to sell Strongbow businesses in South Africa and Namibia won’t affect ownership or strategic direction of brand in international markets
