Digitata buys SA tech firm Rorotika

International technology firm Digitata has acquired a controlling stake in long-time partner, South Africa’s Rorotika Technologies, which provides development and support services for Digitata’s dynamic tariffing platform used by major mobile operators, including MTN and Econet Wireless.

Formed in 2008, Digitata is a privately held multinational technology company with a background in mobile telecommunications and revenue management.

Its dynamic tariffing solution is used by operators to offer discounts to customers based on factors such as network load, time of day and user location. This and other technologies it develops are used by almost 90m subscribers in 25 countries.

Rorotika Technologies, meanwhile, is a South African-based company founded in 2006 that focuses on developing network-based solutions for mobile network operators.

It designs solutions in radio network planning, network optimisation and configuration management.

In addition, subsidiary Rorotika Mobile provides a mobile gaming platform based on low-bandwidth USSD technology and targeted at emerging markets. Because it uses USSD, it is accessible from even the most basic feature phones.

Both Rorotika Technologies and Rorotika Mobile will now fall under the Digitata brand. It intends marrying Rorotika Mobile and its own MeMe Mobile offering under one brand, too.

“The Rorotika product range will continue to be offered, improved on and supported under the Digitata brand,” said Digidata CEO Ted Bartlett. Source: Tech Central
